It's all about body images

While browsing the library shelves, I happened on a book by Alexander Tsiaras. This picture arrested my imagination. I had to see more. The multidimensional images are fascinating! For another example,  look at the following picture:

Is this not stunning! I encourage you to look for the book "The Architecture--and Design--of Man and Woman" in your local library. And if you want a fun, interactive way of learning more about the wonders of the human body, just head over to thevisualMD.

Look closer at the body that's literally dying to live!

Make your life easier with these tips...

    * Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little 'stringy things' off of it. That's how the primates do it. (see video). Also, take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

    * Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

    * Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

    * Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

    * To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich, add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

    * For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

    * Broken Glass - Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily. Or use bread.

    * Squirrel Away - To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

    * Reducing Static Cling - Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and .... ta da! .. static is gone.

    * Measuring Cups - Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

    * Foggy Windshield- Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

    * Goodbye Fruit Flies- To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever! (I can vouch for this tip)

    * Get Rid of Ants - Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

Overdue book is returned after 45 years

The Reading Room of the British MuseumImage via Wikipedia

The Penguin copy of "Quartermass and the Pit" by Nigel Kneale was finally returned to Dinnington Library 45 years overdue. The principal assistant would like to know the story behind the return. The person need not worry--library records don't go back that far. Read the story here. Compare that to two books that were 50 years overdue and was returned with a cheque for estimated fines! Birthmarks: Types, Locations, and Folklores

Capillary haemangioma or strawberry birthmark....Image via Wikipedia
Were you born with a birthmark? Does it have a prominent shape? Is it an embarrassment? Is it attached to an explanation or omen? My mother had a most unique birthmark: two dolphins on her stomach. She always said her mother had a fascination with dolphins.
    *****
Let’s begin with the folklore/superstitions surrounding birthmarks. Here’s a brief sampling:
Your mother had an x-ray while she was pregnant.
A mouse touched your mother when she was pregnant.
A pregnant woman craving a food she didn’t get, so her unborn baby developed a PWS, often in the shape of the food she craved.
Your mother liked jam sandwiches when she was pregnant!
Your mother was wishing for wine when she was pregnant. She wished so hard you were born with port wine spilled on your face.
Your mom spilled wine on herself when she was 6 – 9 months pregnant.
Your mom smoked when she was pregnant and held the smoke in too long.
    Read the rest here.

Foot – A birthmark on the right foot represents love for traveling and a person with birthmark on the left foot is an intellectual.
Forehead – If the birthmark is on the right side, then the person has great mental power and if it is on the left side, the person likes to spend a lot of money. If the birthmark is right in the middle of the forehead, the person is attractive to the opposite sex and has many love affairs.

    Unique mosaic maker

Here are three videos of mosaics created by David Alvarez , a college student and artist from Washington. One is made from 14,000 dice, one is a 25-foot  tall picutre of Jimi Hendrix from cards, and the Joker from 336 Rubik's Cubes.

    Fetal 4D video

The womb used to be a private, mysterious world. But now, thanks to 4d technology , it's no longer a secret.

In this 2m18s National Geographic video  we see a fetus yawn, open its eyes, and play with its nose. Also shown is the size of a six week old embryo and the first movements of an eight week old fetus.
